Effects of late miticide treatments on foraging and colony productivity of European honey bees (Apis mellifera)

چکیده
Chemical miticides are used routinely in honey bee colonies worldwide as treatment for the parasitic mite Varroa destructor, but there have been very few long-term colony-level field studies of impacts on bees themselves. Lab-based with individual or small groups highlighted many negative effects behaviour and physiology; hence, is an urgent need to better understand consequences apicultural setting. Here we compared commercial treatments tau-fluvalinate thymol, controls, foraging over five months, from autumn through winter Sydney, Australia. Since V. destructor does not occur this study, could isolate direct indirect resulting reduced load. We found either miticide caused no significant change adult brood population size food stores. The average temperature thymol group differed control was lower during winter. Neither longevity. Tau-fluvalinate start earlier life perform shorter trips, other were documented. To conclude, Australia, limited observed colony performance.

The foraging behaviour of honey bees, Apis mellifera: a review
Foraging behaviour is one of the distinctive behaviours of honey bees, Apis mellifera. This behaviour is the link between the honey bee colony and the ambient environment. Therefore, various in-colony and out-colony factors have an impact on this behaviour, and many studies have been employed to investigate these factors. Foraging behaviour is not advantageous only for the colony and for plant ...
متن کاملPollen Foraging Response to Brood Pheromone by Africanized and European Honey Bees (Apis mellifera L.)
We examined the pollen foraging responses of Africanized and European honey bee colonies to hexane extractable compounds of Africanized and European larvae (brood pheromone). Brood pheromone was presented to broodless Africanized and European colonies equalized for numbers of bees, food stores and, empty comb space. The pheromone signiÞcantly increased the ratio of pollen to nonpollen foragers ...
متن کاملEffects of Pesticide Treatments on Nutrient Levels in Worker Honey Bees (Apis mellifera).
Honey bee colony loss continues to be an issue and no factor has been singled out as to the cause. In this study, we sought to determine whether two beekeeper-applied pesticide products, tau-fluvalinate and Fumagilin-B(®), and one agrochemical, chlorothalonil, impact the nutrient levels in honey bee workers in a natural colony environment. Treatments were performed in-hive and at three differen...
متن کاملComparison of acute effects of heroin and Kerack on sensory and motor activity of honey bees (Apis mellifera)
Objective(s):Previous studies demonstrated a functional similarity between vertebrate and honey bee nervous systems. The aim of the present study was to compare the effects of heroin and Iranian street Kerack, a combination of heroin and caffeine, on sensory threshold and locomotor activity in honey bees. Materials and Methods: All drugs were given orally to honey bees 30 min before each exper...
